Seed/Seedling Planting 2013

I planted two different types of sunflower's today through out the snow pea/onion/lettuce bed.
If I need to move them I can but I think the timing will work out between harvesting the other crops.

Orangish/brown and Large Golden Yellow SunFlowers 2/9/2013
Germination 2/22/13 - 2/29/13
Est. Bloom 4/24/13 - 5/8/13
Purple Tree Collards ~ Planted 2/10/2013
I have my fingers crossed, I didn't know they weren't rooted
when I paid $5.00 + shipping each via e-bay for them.
These perennial veggies are great for the backyard organic vegetable gardener or mini farm as they never stop producing. High in Calcium!! Sweeter and Tastier than regular collards (especially during the Fall, Winter, Spring when the whether is cooler and the leaves turn purple).
Purple Tree Collards are rare, especially around here.

Snow Peas and White Onions

I love me some snow peas! This is the first Time I've ever grown these but I've heard they are easy to grow. I started these from Burpee seed packets from Lowe's. I did companion planting with white onion bulbs and and lettuce seedling. Seedlings being transplanted from seed tray to bed was delayed because bed was not yet built. Harvest date will be delayed because of this but still in acceptable time frame of the season.

Snow Pea's Seeds Sowed on 11/14/2012 - Transplanted sometime in mid January -
Estimated Harvest Date 3/23/2013

I added turkey string for the peas to climb up on. It was a dollar from the dollar tree in Bradenton.
Updated Photo (2/1/2013) of Pea's, Onion's and Lettuce. Everything is looking great, next photo I will get a close-up of snow pea flowers and peas.

Raised Garden Beds

Our first raised bed planted with a whole pack of green lettuce seeds.
Still needs thining but is looking better since thinning has begun.
Due to over crowding in box one, the seedling are growing at different rates.
Its as if we consectively planted the seeds apart by two
                     weeks.
We should of saved some of the seeds for next year but its working out for
                      us. : )

  Raised Garden Bed #1

Camerino & Kim made this bed and Camerino planted lettuce seeds on 11/ /2012.

Raised Garden Bed #2

Camerion bulit this bed using recycled wood.
Lettuce seedling's thinned and transfered from bed #1.
Lettuce is doing great and growing very well.

Raised Garden Bed #3

This bed I planted out with lettuce seedlings from bed #1 (1/27/2013) and 30 red onions seedlings that I plant from bulbs. I got these bulbs from Come See Come Save in Bradenton. I was able to hand pick the bulbs I wanted and it cost me less than a dollar. Much cheaper than buying the seedling bunch.
In front of the bed is tomatoes seedlings and tyme I started from seeds.

Grape Vine - To Thine Own Self Be True

Our Grape Vine looks sad but its winter time and it sat in a one gallon container for about a year.
Not my fault! lol
Well, we have a sturdy trellis in place and with spring time about a month and a half away, it will be fine (hopefully).
I'll keep a image record to show our progress.

In The Beginning - Victory Garden - VOTA

Hello Everyone,

My name is Bobby, and this is the story of our "Victory Garden".
My father and I share our home with friends who are like family. We have all lived together for years for better economics, companionship, and safety.
Clan "Bear" Kim calls us. :)
We are trying to live healthier and longer by eating more of our own home grown organic fruits and vegetables. We are trying to move more into a self sustaining life style. It will be a long ardous adventure to encompasses many factor's, such as a garden, rain barrels, vermiculture, a watering well, solar panels, and a pond stocked with edible fish.
We make this move towards a hopeful future, while encouraging others to start growing and eating their own food to become healthier and more self reliant, building skill sets, most of us have lost through the generation's. This is a great way to build community via networking, hosting co-op programs, educational gardening sessions, garden parties and seed sharing.
Most every one's grandparents and great grand parents knew how to live off the land and grow their own food, their lives and that of their children depended on it.
If you know me, live/work in the village of the arts, love gardening, interested in a sustainable future, interested in blogging, or just like watching the garden grow, I know this will be fun,
We are novice gardeners with heart and dedication to work towards our goals. With out further ado, our story begins.
